The Ancient Lands Warrior Quest Search for the Ifa Scepter Jason McCammon 9780984312016 Books Reviews

Well-written and very imaginative. The characters are full bodied and the dialogue is believable. Fantasy, action ,coming of age and humor too.
The series is set in a fantasy version of East Africa with sibling rivalry the driving force behind the story. A nice read for pre-teens and early teens.
I am an avid reader and although fantasy isn't my favorite genre of book, The Ancient Lands definitely changed my opinion. I enjoyed the two young characters, Bomani and Farra. Their journey kept my attention and just when I thought the end was near, something else extraordinary would happen. The author did a wonderful job of providing many details, which made me feel as if I was a part of the journey. It made me feel like a kid again. I don't want to give away too many details in this review because I don't want to spoil it for future readers, but the ending is the best!
Good read
Much better than I was expecting. Though I should warn you that it is mostly a young adult novel, written as such and with characters designed to appeal to kids in the early teen range. That being said, it was a fun read and I only had minor issues with a video game feel to parts of the plot which is the only thing that kept this from being 5 stars.

Get the book, you'll enjoy it.
This is more designed for children and teenagers, and I think it would hit the mark. It shows the need to grow and perhaps that what you want, isn't really what you want. I enjoyed it as a 41 year old adult, especially as it is set in a culture that I know so little about, but it is aimed for younger folks.

Though Mongo made me think of Alex Karras, which made me sad.

Picked it up for free.
While I realize this book is clearly meant for the pre-teen/teen age group (which I'm not), I found the writing style a bit too childish. I thought the story and the premise were creative but the book lacked the strong writing style of the better "young adult" authors. The dialog was often stilted and unrealistic as were the characters. And of course, each adventure scene was rather like a cartoon. But clearly, based on the creativity of the story, the author has some talent which may develop over time.
