This was a very enjoyable book. The characters were well-developed & believable & the plot had enough twists & turns to keep me interested. I lived for several years in the area of the book's setting, so I could picture the area as I read, which added an extra layer of enjoyment. I look forward to reading more books by Mr. Lieberman.Product details

THE BOYS OF TRUXTON edition by Robert H Lieberman Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
We are all trapped, one way or another, in the ashes of our history, the colors of our nature and the imminence of our actions. Derek, the protagonist, try as he may, cannot escape his past.. or his present. Filled with accurate and vivid description of adolescent prisons and the unceasing cold of Winter in Upstate NY, the book is a great read for a hot beach in July.
This is a very dynamic read. You are moved to turn each page to find the conclusion. Great use of real places, real prisons and real analysis (DNA). Mr. Lieberman reminds us of human compassion. I have also read Baby and Last Boy. These are wonderful entertaining books, with unexpected story lines. You won't be disappointed. Way to go!
I normally have four or so books on the go at any one time on my but when I started The Boys of Truxton, the other books just had to wait. I loved this and wished it didn't end.
An archetypal plot with an unlikely pair of underdogs up against a partly rotten society. I particularly enjoyed how their two very different fates converged as the novel developed - it creates a kind of symmetry that holds the plot together while adding som credibility. The subject matter is painfully relevant. A page-turner. Read it!
This story shows what can happen in a young man's life when a cop, and a teacher care. When someone cares enough to step out of their comfort zone to help a boy less fortunate. It's a story that will make you feel good
The author is obviously a talented writer, and it's a pleasure to read a book that flows so smoothly. He drew vivid pictures of the three main characters, especially "Shrek." He made it easy to imagine the characters in each physical setting he placed them. For example, when he wrote of wind-driven snow and ice, he made me cold. He did a good job with the speech of his characters. The dialogue was realistic without being annoying to read.
I didn't give the book five stars because of a line in the description says, "Nothing is as it first appears in this layered and taut thriller..." So, not one single thing is as it first appears? That is an overused expression in book blurbs, and in this case, it's not accurate. Because of that line, I thought I would at least be surprised as the "layered thriller" unfolded. I was not surprised at all. To me, the book was fairly predictable all the way through, but because of that line I still kept thinking that something surprising was coming.
I think the author wrote a very good book that needs an altered description so that readers don't expect something they don't get. The story is good enough without greasing the skids with that line. I think it's a 5-star book if the description is accurate. However, that's just my opinion, and I admit I can be picky. It might not bother anyone else.
Just a note. This is an edited version of my earlier review in which I gave the book 3 stars. In the description there was a typo concerning the title that the author or editor has corrected. It made me change my review to 4 stars. It was nice to see that someone cares about his readers. I hope I have an opportunity to read another book by this author.
